Hypnosis vs Meditation
I have been wondering this: What is the difference between hypnosis and meditation?
I have studied hypnosis and I have done alot of meditation I can't see any differences.
In hypnosis and meditation you do a relaxing body scan. In hypnosis and meditation you use the power of suggestion
to visualize this suggestion. In hypnosis and meditation you go deep into the subconscious to implant a thought.
Is it just me thinking that they are the same?
Can anyone tell me what the difference is?
Thank you!

I wondered that too after doing some of Sylvia's excersizes they are based in hypnosis from what i can discern but then you go places too
Re: Hypnosis vs Meditation
Well, even Sylvia brings the person/people back up out of the meditations/hypnosis state.
There must be that time to bring up.
If you bring people up too fast they will get a really bad headache.
It is necessary to count them back up to their present state of mind. You can't just leave them hanging.

I wish I could remember exactly what my instructor has said regarding your question, as I KNOW it has been covered.
All I seem to remember at the present time is this: Meditation and Hypnosis are in the same family, they are nearly the same thing.
I want to say that Hypnosis is different because it utilizes positive suggestions, although as you have stated, meditation does as well.
I am also inclined to say that Hypnosis is somewhat of a more controlled environment. At the same time, meditation can be also.
I am also inclined to say that in Hypnosis, threw the help of the Hypnotist/Hypnotherapist the subject may reacher greater depths because of being so closely observed and the "Operator" (Hypnotist) can assist them to bring them deeper or lighter, depending on what is being worked with. At the same time i understand someone who is experienced with Meditation may be able to reach some depth as well, but I do believe not quiet the same because Meditation is guided (as is Hypno) but in Meditation I do not beleive they can fluctuate your depth as easily or as readily as Hypnosis can.
I will stop there, I hope I made sense....

Re: Hypnosis vs Meditation
That makes more sense because unless guided you don't go far. Like trying to drive 100 miles at 20 miles per hour self guided. Hypnosis can take you farther.. since someone helps you. You're not left to your own devices.. Gotcha thanks. I know for the monks who meditate it can take years because they are self guided.

I thought of you today and your thread here.
My instructor approached a bit of the differences between Meditation and Hypnosis, almost like he knew I had it on my mind... We had asked for him to explain the differences between them in single or just a couple words for clarity. These are his breakdowns, just his way of expressing it, not saying that this is it now.
Meditation :
Free Flowing
Passive
Go anywhere
InDirect
Hypnosis:
Direct
Action Based
Active
These are all that I seem to remember at the moment, however I did write it down and didnt bring that piece of paper into work with me today, so when I look at it tonight and if by chance there was something that I forgot to include here, I will do so later.

Another thing in class today triggered my memory of your post.
My instructor mentioned today that often when you bring someone "out" from a session and they are experiencing a headache, it is because they often times (not always) have went to sleep on you and by waking them up utilizing the way we do for Hypnosis, when they were actually sleeping is part of the contributors to getting a headache. Something to do with the brain waves being so much different in Hypnosis verses Sleep.
Has this been your experience? Im just curious. Just sharing what I have learned as all, not questioning your knowledge nor experience in the field my friend.
Forgot to also ask. When you mentioned that "it is necessary to count them back up to their present state of mind" We also have been taught that, as that as you know is the intregal part of the end of a Hypnosis session, however when you bring them "out" (counting up) and they are experiencing a headache, do you or have you tried putting them back "in" real quick and then take them back out.

Re: Hypnosis vs Meditation
Thank you Patrick,
I am taking another class on hypnotherapy now and I asked this question.
The differences is only one! Hypnosis you want them to flow in and out of thought. Meditation there is only one focus.
My instructor is Don Mottin..I am sure that you have heard of him. He is the 2nd highest in the guild of hypnosis and in the country.
I just love it dont you?
He told me that he made $400,000 last year. He is an instructor. Are you planning on working in this field?

Re: Hypnosis vs Meditation
Good morning
Meditation is union with God, the process of uniting yourself with God, AKA God communion. I don't know much about Hypnosis...
Hugs,
Anne
Here is Paramahansa's short definition of meditation.....Generally interiorized concentration with the objective or perceiving God.

Re: Hypnosis vs Meditation
Hypnosis:
is a procedure which the conscious mind is suppressed
enough that underlying information held in the subconscious and/ or
the Spirit Mind can be accessed.
Meditation:
Is a process the is mostly received through the senses.
I also believe that your not as deeply with-in as you would
otherwise be in Hypnosis.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness where the subconscious is at a suggestive state.

Re: Hypnosis vs Meditation
yes.. I agree... Hypnosis takes you in further.. and enables you to unlock things that may be supressed.. ""Some""" people can go deeper in meditation but not many. In meditation you are usually focusing on one thing.. perhaps something that has been bothering you or just needing to relax and feel close to God... to clear your mind as it were... If we try to go that deep in meditation... we generally go to sleep.. but in hypnosis it is controlled. Make sense? lol.. anyway.. I know what I mean.. hope you do too lol.

meditation vs hypnosis
meditation is listening..to get a message or hear something from someone "god- sg"
When hypnosis is going into the subconscious mind and placing a positive suggestion to help with what ever it is that you are having problems with, nail biteing, bed wetting, smoking, weight, self confidence, stress and so one or behavioral problems or child birthday, cancer treatments so that you will not get sick or achey durning chemo and the like. You do not do that durning meditation.

AWESOME SAMI!! Cool! CONGRATS!!!
Ill be starting my next class to be certified as "Master Hypnotist" in August and have received my certification for "Professional Hypnotist" up to this point. Your defintion really makes sense to me in comparison to my studies.
As far as any other comments (not by you Sami), I didnt realize it was a popularity contest as far as where our Hypnosis Education is obtained.

Re: Hypnosis vs Meditation
Come on everyone! This is no thing to be even having to argue about.
Sonnia=Gonna be master hypnotist.
Sami= Gonna be master hypnotist.
Patrick=Gonna be master hypnotist..
Just think how silly this discussion is?
Your all 3 gonna be bringing people closer to the light..
All 3 of you are gonna be healers, leaders and spiritual people.
10 years from now this will be so silly..
Just be greatful that your able to do God's work..
Be greatful that you have 2 arms, 2 legs 2 eyes to see..
Be greatful that your in a position to bring positivity to this planet!
Be greatful that you see things clearly! For there are many people who are still lost in life, and know not if their lives even matter to themselves.
Leaders set good examples, dont they?

I am not arguing about anything IN2.... Im just sick of certain people turning their own experiences into a popularity contest. Nobody here is any better than anyone else, which includes where we choose to obtain our education, who taught us or how far along into the studies we are. Simple as that.
Have a Great Night and Light to you all!
I have NO more to say on this subject, I am DONE.

Correction IN2 I am a working hypnotherapist..and master hypnotist!
There is no competition as far as I am concerned!
I want nothing but peace on this site.
I am surpised you can't see when the problems come about!
Thank you Patrick for seeing I was being harrassed once again!

Certain people just want to share their experiences and goals with others..On a website geared toward spirituality..What is wrong with that?...I do not see that things are as bad as you make them out to be.
