Is your spouse or significant other Gnostic also? If yes or no, how does that work within your family dynamics.

No he is not Sad Eyes. It usually means we don't discuss anything that deviates from traditional christianity. oh some times he tolerates my beliefs Rolling Eyes I do talk to the children about gnostic christianity though, i let them decide what they want to believe in.

Jenn that is great that you allow the children to make a choice. I agree. I've talked about my beliefs openly with my spouse and children and while they may not say they are Gnostic, they are starting to talk more like Gnostics and believe more like that too. But still sometimes my husband falls back to his Catholic upbringing and says off the wall things. I have to keep reminding him, this is Hell honey, the only place you can go from here is UP! Smile

My partner and I have different views of Gnostisism. It makes discussions very interesting. She was raised mormon so she holds some of those beliefs still. We have a Novus study group that we work on together. We raise our children to believe how they feel. We do not tell them how to believe.

That is a great answer. It is nice to know that even though you have different views or thoughts on Gnosticism, you are able to work together with the study group and it works out. Of course, being Gnostic, I don't know how it could be otherwise, as obviously you don't judge one-anothers view points and also obviously must not denegrate the other because of their different belief of truth. After all, take what you like and leave the rest. We can't all like the same thing can we?

No we don't judge each other. Having different views at times also can give a different perspective on a subject. The differences have caused some very deep thought questions. It helps to learn more actually.

My wonderful guy isn't as adamant or "devoted" as I am, but I have been very fortunate to have found (or charted) someone to share my beliefs, even if not to the same degree. Although Gene's never been very spiritual, he read Visits From The Afterlife, and when he finished, he looked at me, and said, "I like what she says about God and what happens when we die. It makes sense." And that was it...nothing profound.

Then, after his father crossed over, as I was holding him, and comforting him as best I could, he looked me and said, "He took his exit point, and I don't blame him." Which just about made me fall off the couch, since I thought he had forgotten reading about Exit Points, or even was listening to me half of the time.

Then, the other day, he was cleaning the house, and he was singing one of the songs I usually annoy him with. Our cat was meowing--his way of telling us, "enough already!" Gene looked down at him, and said, "I know, Bear. I can't help, Dad's converted me, just like he converted me to being a Sylvia-nite!" (Our little joke about my spirituality)

It's a wonderful thing to know that we can talk about it, even though he's not the type that needs to talk about it, as much as me!

ebook #7 Is your spouse or SO Gnostic too? Empty Spouse or SO

Post by jaclarkjr56@yahoo.com Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:44 am

I don't think he is but . He used to say, "oh don't listen to Sylvia" and now he doesn't. He wasn't really raised religious, though I was. I had learned of Sylvia way before I met him and had been through quite a few things myself in life. He does believe in after life and we do have an odd occurrence in our house that I think used to happen when we lived in Michigan. We have a pair of small lamps on a buffet in our dining room and at certain times like around the anniversary of his first partner's passing they will just be on.. they are on a rheostat switch which is always off. He'll come home from work and ask "Did you turn these things on and go to work?" and I'll say no. I'll laugh and say well I wonder who that is, then we try to figure it out. Personally I think it is Joe, or my grandmother who have both passed over. I buy Sylvia's books and read them, I have read and bought the Noviate books but took only a few tests as I was an individual study group some yeas ago. I like keeping up with folks online.

I found him only when I really stopped being hard headed and listened to a guy who was a study group in San Jose who told me my future mate was in my own back yard. At that time I live in a particularly small town in western Michigan pop 7800... He lived 35 miles away in the big city and it was funny. I felt one night yes 3 A.M. (last week of June of 2004) the intense urge to get up take a pic nothing riske' and posted it online at a site I used to frequent. The 35 mile deal was in the backyard. I just had had enough of dealing with the guys who lived in the city.

Long story short. He looked at my pic online and called me the next day. I saw his when I was posting it and looked at it like threee times but left everything alone. And he was the only guy who bothered to come up to the small town to really talk and meet. I was impressed with him for that and the rest is history. We got married in Toronto in 2005! It all fell into place. Just like everything that just seems to happen when you let go...LOL Very Happy

My husband is not Gnostic. His beliefs are the traditional Christian beliefs. Although, he does not attend church.
He is actually against me being Gnostic. He says things like "Don't drink the punch" - he says that it seems cultish to him. I was taking my children to the Novus service here in Michigan for a while, and he put an end to it. Now, I discuss my Gnostic beliefs with the children and let them decide what they want to believe. Usually, they ask me what I think about something and I explain the way I believe and why. Most of the time, they think what I explain, makes more sense to them. What ever my children decide is fine with me. After all, what they believe is what they are "intended" to, right? Joyful
