Here is a song that is really sad, but i love the song i grew up listening to this song, although at the time i did not know what the story of the lyrics were i just sang them I am beggining to understand what this song actually is trying to say.

to me (yes, Guns 'n Roses Mr Axel ....where do we go from here...LOL)
it's the oxy-moronic, life/death, civil/murderous, duality of humankind....

You see, not everyone can be a soldier. The rich can buy themselves out like just for example John Kerry and his purple hearts and then he was done when others went onward in their tour.... they couldn't buy their way out like the rich. How can a president of our nation or any nation understand how to protect it if he's never been a soldier in defense of it?
Very interesting but not here....LOL... unless that's what the rest of the movie is about.

In combination (video and song), it's a political, spiritual, common sense statement about the loss that fighting brings.

the video shows flickers of the wish and longing of home through Tom Hanks' character and the confusion that war is glory or that it happens for a viable reason more than enough feelings to realize the torment it truely is.....

my gosh, there is so much that one can gleen from the song and video...

It's basically a full circle.....

Soldiers defend the homeland against those who would destroy it
they put their life on the frontline
so artists like Rose (who is one of us) can perform songs in memory of them.... ironic isn't it or moronic...?

Actually, I believe in an army to defend your, mine, their nation
because there are agressors that do threaten genocide - as we know
it the extermination of a particular group, culture, religion, etc...

My apologies i removed the video above and just left the link to it. I did not put into account the horror war brings and that some members of this forum may find this disturbing. Sometimes i post without thinking first i get caught up in all the crap out there, but when i listened to this the other day i kept thinking how horrible war really is. When axel says we dont need no civil war, i relate what he is saying to all wars, and as war protects people it also kills people. What is wrong with humanity? i pray one day we may all live on this planet in peace no more war.

I agree that a person even a president does not know the horror of actually being in war without being there to experience it.
